Foreword

A word from Aaron Hughes, Technical Director

I'm thrilled to introduce the Irish FA Youth Football Framework. The framework outlines our plan to revolutionise youth football in Northern Ireland. It is centred around the child, aiming to attract more children to play, keep players in the game for longer and to develop more technically gifted football players.

Our approach is tailored with game formats ranging from 3v3 to the more traditional 11v11, each designed to meet the developmental needs of children at various ages. It’s a comprehensive effort to ensure football remains a source of enjoyment, learning, and camaraderie for our young players.

The Framework also extends beyond the pitch. It aims to create a supportive culture and an inclusive youth football ecosystem including coaches, referees, parents, family members and supporters.

To ensure our young players stay at the forefront of youth football, the youth football charter integrates key principles based on children's rights as outlined by the United Nations. This underscores our commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment for all involved.

This will be a collaborative journey. Your support and involvement are crucial. Together, let’s make youth football in Northern Ireland a clear example of excellence.
