Review Process
Where did the Framework come from?
The youth review consisted of four phases over a 12-month period. During each phase, research and consultation was independently led by Ulster University.
Phase 1 – Framework Development: September – December 2023
- Conducted detailed research and analysis of current practices in youth football, incorporating feedback from local youth players, clubs, leagues and benchmarking against UEFA youth football standards.
- Developed a draft version of a youth football framework, outlining initial recommendations based on research findings.
Phase 2 – Framework Revision: January – May 2024
- Ran a series of interactive roadshows with administrators, players, coaches, parents and clubs, to outline research findings and discuss feedback on the initial recommendations.
- Used online platforms to collect a broad range of feedback.
Phase 3 – Framework Launch: June – August 2024
- Finalised and officially launched the youth football framework.
- Through the local youth leagues, the youth football framework was presented and outlined to clubs, coaches, players and parents. This included a detailed overview of the roadmap and impact measurement overview.
Phase 4 – Framework Implementation: September 2024
- Provide ongoing training, resources and support for the framework's implementation.
- Established feedback channels and mechanisms for continuous evaluation and adjustment to ensure the constant evolution of youth football.
